Hello!
About Me
Hi, I’m Laura Moe, a dedicated pediatric occupational therapist with over 15 years of experience empowering children to overcome challenges, build essential skills, and achieve meaningful milestones. I hold a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from St. Catherine University and earned my post-professional doctorate from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. My capstone project, "Thrive Outside: A Nature-Based Occupational Therapy Program," reflects my passion for integrating innovative and holistic approaches into therapy.
Throughout my career, I have worked in diverse settings, including schools, outpatient clinics, private practices, and in-home therapy, across the United States, including California, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Colorado, and Vermont. This extensive experience has shaped my ability to address the unique needs of children from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Expertise Across Diagnoses
I specialize in working with children with a wide range of diagnoses, including:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Developing sensory regulation strategies, improving social-emotional skills, and enhancing functional independence through structured and individualized programs.
- Down Syndrome: Focusing on fine motor development, self-care skills, and adaptive strategies to support independence and participation in daily routines.
- Physical Disabilities: Helping children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and developmental delays to improve mobility, motor coordination, and strength using adaptive techniques and assistive devices.
- Sensory Processing Challenges: Providing sensory integration therapy to help children better interpret and respond to sensory information, enabling them to thrive in their environments.
- ADHD and Learning Disabilities: Creating strategies to improve attention, self-regulation, and executive functioning skills for success in school and everyday life.
- Feeding Disorders: Using my certification in SOS Feeding to address sensory aversions, oral-motor challenges, and mealtime behaviors for children with feeding difficulties.
Approach to Therapy
At Aspire to Thrive Therapy, I take a family-centered and holistic approach to therapy, collaborating closely with parents and caregivers to create personalized plans tailored to each child’s unique strengths and needs. My goal is to help children achieve independence in their daily lives, from developing fine motor skills for school tasks to improving self-care and social interactions. I’m also passionate about incorporating play and nature-based interventions to make therapy engaging, effective, and meaningful for every child.
Why I’m Passionate
Working with children and their families is my greatest joy. Seeing a child take their first steps toward independence, gain confidence in their abilities, or accomplish a task they once struggled with is what inspires me every day. Whether addressing handwriting challenges, fostering sensory regulation, or building self-esteem, my mission is to support every child’s journey toward growth and success.
When I’m not working, I love exploring the outdoors, hiking, traveling, and volunteering in community programs that promote child development and well-being.
I look forward to partnering with you and your child on their path to thriving!
